At the 2017 NBA Draft, the Los Angeles Lakers will have the No. 2 and 28 picks. While Lonzo Ball is reportedly the ‘heavy’ favorite, the storied franchise has also been linked with De’Aaron Fox and Josh Jackson.

Appearing on The Dan Patrick Show, head coach Luke Walton discussed numerous topics including the team’s potential top selection according to Andrew Perloff of Sports Illustrated:

While there may be concerns about Ball’s father, Walton says he is most concerned with what player can help the Lakers improve on their 26-56 record:

Although there has been controversy surrounding Ball’s father in recent days, the focus should remain on how his son can help the storied franchise on the court. While the Lakers have D’Angelo Russell and Jordan Clarkson, both players are capable of playing the shooting guard position.

Should the Lakers ultimately select Ball, he is a pass-first point guard that should elevate the team’s young core of Russell, Brandon Ingram, and Julius Randle. While President of Basketball Operations Magic Johnson and general manager Rob Pelinka are being patient with the rebuilding process, there will continue to be the temptation of trading for Paul George despite the four-time All-Star becoming an unrestricted free agent following the 2017-18 NBA season.
